Roof and home exterior care

For most people, your home is one of your largest investments.  Protecting it and caring for it should be a top priority.   As a homeowner, you do all you can to foresee any and all threats that could take away or cause damage to your property.  We purchase fire, flood, wind, and even earthquake insurance in the unlikely event that one of those disasters occurs. What about if the damage comes from something biological?  Living here in the south, our high humidity can turn our home into a petri dish of structurally harmful bacteria, molds, algae, mildews, mosses, and fungus.  The main culprit that we see most often as blue and black streaks across our brick, stucco, siding, and metal and shingled roofs is actually a blue-green algae called Gloeocapsa Magma.  This microorganism feeds off the limestone in the asphalt on our shingled roofs and can be very unsightly and damaging to our exterior surfaces. It is a myth that the UV radiation from the sun will somehow "cook" off and kill the little critters.  They have evolved to protect themselves from the radiation, and in the case of Gloeocapsa Magma, can actually harness it through photosynthesis.  Regular removal of these biological microorganisms is critical to maintaining the integrity and longevity of your property.

Owning a home is expensive.
